NAGT PRIORITIES

The following statements about the priorities of the NAGT were submitted by the president of the Far Western Section to the NAGT Council at the GSA Meeting 2003:

“The priorities for NAGT should include:
    1) Work to make geoscience a part of every high school curriculum co-equal to biology, chemistry and physics.
    2) Ensure that preparation for K-12 "elementary" educators includes basic instruction in all sciences and that preparation for K-12 "secondary school" science educators provides a solid foundation in all sciences with a concentration in one or more of them.
    3) Support geoscience teaching at all levels through formal and informal in-service activities including section conferences, summer institutes with colleges and universities, teacher/researcher contacts for mutual involvement, cooperation with other professional organizations to support education in geosciences and dissemination of geoscience information to the public.
